Giorgio Tosi
Composer | Pianist
Giorgio Tosi is an Italian composer and pianist born in Reggio Emilia and living in Novellara. He studied piano at Elsa Politi (famous teacher) graduated in 1974 with honors in the Conservatory Arrigo Boito in Parma. In 1981 he graduated in Composition under the guide of Camillo Togni, again with honors. In 1982 he attended the “semiotics of music” at the Conservatory Giuseppe Verdi in Milan under the guide of Azio Corghi. In his career he has collaborated with various publishing houses with which he has recorded several original works both for Piano Solo and to explore the new sounds of electronics and computer music. Since 1980 he has performed in Italy and abroad in numerous events. In 1981 he won the “Luis De Narvaez” composition prize held in Granada, Spain; in 1985 he won the “Alfredo Casella” composition prize in Siena. At the same time he has always been teacher of Principal Piano and Score Reading at the Conservatory of Mantova and Parma where he currently teaches composition.
His work ranges from very varied compositions for Piano Solo (e.g. “Alte Zeit”, “Blitz”, or “Flash Back”) to complex scores dedicated to sound more innovative (see the cycle “Computer Music” volumes 1 to 6) Since 2010 started the official publication of his repertoire by giving his works to the digital iTunes store.
It is in place for some years a project marked by the creation of compositions for small and large orchestra, new fertile ground to explore new technical and expressive potential. The new course began in 2018 and is still under expansion: see the Opere and Scores section.
